Printing from Color Negatives
Good prints can be made from color negatives, although they are not the equal of good black and white negatives. I print using Ilford Multigrade RC or FB paper.
The image from color negatives printed on b&w paper tends to be a bit more grainy, and there are differences in color rendition: red tones and skin tones appear darker, blues will print lighter.
A recommended alternative is to have the color negative scanned, then create a digital negative for contact printing. This procedure will prevent unwanted graininess and unbalanced tonality and, thus, will more accurately render the image in black and white.
Darkroom manipulation will help offset discrepancies when using properly exposed color negatives.
